The Tearle Brothers

Gordon Smith

The Tearle brothers were good friends of Dicky Fynes. They were Shakespearean actors. When you look at the playbills for the time, these guys would put on Romeo and Juliet on Monday, Hamlet on Tuesday, As You Like It on Wednesday, Othello on Thursday and they’d have a couple of matinées on the Saturday.

The Tearle brothers were quite internationally known actors. Osmond Tearle did a season in America, for which he was paid over £1000. And they came to Blyth on a regular basis.
