Ring Any Bells Rap

by Pete Scott & Michael Cowell

She’s been on the throne for fifty years now
It’s time to look where we’ve got to and how
Mother of Parliaments, democracy
Why do we still have a Royal Family?

Chorus:
She’s ruled us now for the longest of spells
Does that sound familiar, does that ring any bells?

Her husband is foreign, her son’s a clown
Kids sleep in doorways, her reign’s falling down
Rich wearing jewellery, poor with no coat
If it could change things, would they let you vote?

Chorus

Some say that they’re feckless, aloof and worse
Right Royal drain on our poor public purse
Kept from the real world by wealth and might
But they head the Empire, so that makes it right.

Chorus

The Prince of Wales’ mistress is known full well
And the staff below stairs have tales to tell.
I’m asking you if the choice were to rob
Or swap lives with them, would you have their job?

Chorus

So come with us now as we time travel
Back to Potts & Grieves and Danny the Gavel
Back in time to 1887
To Mally’s pub, it’s hardly heaven

But here is where they decide about
The Queen’s Jubilee, they’ll scream and shout
‘Cos they’re a bit miffed about her big day
The Queen has said, “The People Must Pay!”.

Chorus
