Hoist Up The Flag

David Venus

We’re all met together, to drink and to sing
Of the Queen’s Jubilee, let your words all take wing
And each tell your tale now, as you see the way
Of how we should make merry on this special day

Chorus:
So hoist up the flag, and bend at the knee
And I’ll tell you a tale of the Queen’s Jubilee!

A glorious Empire, the nation as one
She has brought us together all under one sun
So come along now and we shall unite
Come on out of the darkness and into the light!

Chorus

There’s cakes and there’s wine and there’s ale by the yard
But on Monday, it’s back down the pit and it’s hard
And what makes it unjust from my point of view
Is you want us to pay for your cakes and ale too!

Chorus

The Widow of Windsor is all dressed in black
The court ladies dare not smile, or they’ll get the sack
Since Albert has gone, oh your eyes are cast down
But how far? To the hem of a kilt, Mrs. Brown?

Chorus

Soon drunkenness, wantonness, and, alas, more
There’ll be gambling and fighting, loose morals galore
It’s just an excuse for mayhem, and I’ll tell
If you don’t mend your ways, then you’ll all go to Hell!

Chorus

Jubilee, Jubilee
Jubilee, Jubilee
Let's hear it again for the Queen’s Jubilee
Jubilee, Jubilee
Jubilee, Jubilee
For the Queen and for Blyth Town and Jubilee
