At 1 o’clock. The Royal Trumpeters, (Powell and Warner), with loud flourish will ascend the steps of the Hedley Fountain and there announce the grand approach of the Mayor and Corporation of Blyth, the former wearing his golden gilt brass chain of office, at the same time displaying a new robe similar to that worn by the Mayor of Bedlington. His Worship, the Mayor, will be supported by the Sheriff, (J. W. Parsons); Sub-Sheriff (W. M. Ward); Mace and Sword Bearer (J. J. Nelson): Town Clerk (M. W. Sidney). The following Councillors will lend additional dignity to the civic portion of the ceremony by attending:—Messrs. W. Robinson, Joseph Lee, R. R. Lough, W. Lilburn, J. Nixon, J. Hedley, W. Todd, T. Milburn, Dr G. Ward, R. Stoker, T. Walker, J. Watson, G. Summers, F. Whitehead, B. Milburn, &c. After the circle is formed, the Mayor will proceed to read the following proclamation:—“By command of the Royal Blue Bottles it becomes my duty, as custodian of the public dignity of Blyth to announce the Jubilee Holiday. Her Majesty, the Queen, having reigned over Blyth and other places for 50 years, for the low nominal sum of £385,000 per annum, now desires to found an Imperial Institute at the National expense. To commemorate this event to-day, a charter will be granted to Blyth to remove the Royal Cottage Hospital into the sea. A second charter will be granted to enable the poor of Blyth and Cowpen to receive the handsome donation of one bright farthing fresh from the Mint, in memory of the glorious event in Her Majesty’s reign. A third charter will be granted, enabling the patron of the town, Sir M. W. Ridley, to assume the title of Lord Blagdon Bull of Stannington. A Royal Mandate will be issued empowering the Corporation of Blyth to raise £5000 from the various poor boxes to pay for the red tape and sealing wax essential to the legality of these documents and the Royal signature. |
